When I was a UT student (around 1999 thru 2003), I remember running my grungy startup out of my dorm room. Granted I had a solid internet connection, there were a few things missing that I wish I had:
- a real office that was affordable without lease terms
- other entrepreneur friends working on cool ideas
- help in making good, sound business decisions (llc or corp? how do i divide up equity? etc)
The office needed to be close to campus (I had no way to get around the other cool parts of Austin) and I really couldn’t afford a massive office (I just needed 150 sq. ft. to call my office cave). I joined forces with a buddy on a startup only to watch it fail because we didn’t know how to divide up chunks of our company in a fair and motivating way. Having a little bit of guidance would have solved a lot of startup problems.
